The BOMA Calgary Technology Committee has started an Industry Collaboration Working Group. This group aim is to bring together passionate members of the BOMA community to talk about the challenges facing our industry today and discuss solutions, share best practices, success stories, or challenges. Some of the topics could include: Environmental, Social or Governance issues, Practical Uses of Data/Technology, Paths to Net Zero and more.
Our next session is on the Decarbonization Landscape and we have an outstanding group of speakers including:
TransAlta
As a leading clean energy company, TransAlta brings 113 years of experience working in the renewable electricity sector throughout Canada, the United States and Australia. TransAlta has led in electricity decarbonization and has reduced annual emissions by approximately 31 million tonnes of CO2e since 2005 through growth in renewable energy and the phase out of our Canadian coal generation in 2021, nine years ahead of Federal and Provincial mandates. As part of our Clean Electricity Growth Plan, in 2021, we established an Energy Innovation team to investigate, prioritize and deploy new net-zero electricity generation technologies that address the three main factors of our energy transition: reliability, decarbonization and affordability. As we grow our renewables business, the Energy Innovation team is focused on what we should build next that complements our hydro, wind and solar assets to deliver reliable, affordable and low-carbon electricity to our customers. This talk will explore the trends in decarbonized power including the increasing demand for 24/7 clean power and how emerging technologies can support the further decarbonization of our electricity grids.
Wesco
Interested in learning more on Solar and EV Charging technologies? Wesco will provide an update on the current state of these technologies, as they pertain to the commercial market. Expect to learn about current subsidies, rebate programs, tax implications and a case study which showcases a national rollout with considerations for simplifying deployment and maximizing ROI.
ENMAX
Enabling the energy transition: preparing for the future of electricity Electrification, new technologies and changing energy use patterns as the world strives toward Net Zero are ushering electrical infrastructure providers into new and exciting spaces. ENMAX Power, the regulated owner of electrical infrastructure in Calgary and surrounding areas, will join us to share perspective and about their efforts in preparing for the electrical grid for the future, in support of their customers.
Point8 Power Systems
What is cogeneration and how can it be used to drive a robust and sustainable energy future?
In a quest to maximize energy efficiency and deliver sustainable energy generation, we seek to describe, demonstrate and discuss the uses of smaller cogeneration systems in commercial applications. From a technical perspective we discuss major components, existing technologies and site integrated solutions. Along side the brief technical review, an economic base case gets dissected to highlight advantages and drawbacks of integrating these systems into new and existing buildings.
Cogeneration technologies are often shrouded in technical complexity and murkiness when it comes to the economic advantages. We hope to open the floor to answer some of the questions individuals may have about examining their use cases.
