Speakers: Parker Mathieson and Graham Tait

Every time it rains or snow melts, our outdoor work areas get a bath. Dirt, oil, gasoline, garbage, and other chemicals/materials can be washed from outdoor surfaces into storm drains, with potential adverse effects on our stormwater system and our watershed. Over the past two years, The City of Calgary's Water Utility has been developing a Stormwater Pollution Prevention Program focused on industrial, commercial, and institutional (ICI) facility yards in both private and public facilities.

Join us for a webinar on Stormwater Pollution Prevention at ICI facilities, jointly hosted by BOMA Calgary and The City of Calgary. Topics will include:

· Causes of stormwater pollution at ICI facilities

· Stormwater pollution prevention tools and best practices

· City of Calgary Stormwater Pollution Prevention Program components

· Regulatory requirements for facility owners, operators, and landowners

· Case study discussions on planning and implementation of successful stormwater pollution prevention practices at local facilities

· Q&A / discussion

About the Speakers:

Parker Mathieson and Graham Tait are Stormwater Pollution Prevention Specialists with The City of Calgary’s Water Utility.

Parker has worked for The City of Calgary for the last 8 years in a variety of different roles all focused on the protection of the Bow River watershed. He has conducted Water Quality Monitoring programs upstream, downstream and within the City of Calgary, ensured private and public construction sites have appropriate Erosion & Sediment Control plans implemented to prevent discharge of sediment laden water into The City’s stormwater system, and most recently a role supporting the ICI Stormwater Pollution Prevention Program. Parker is passionate about ensuring the health & resiliency of the Bow River watershed for the present and for future generations. He brings strong problem-solving and project planning skills to the program and has recently been adding geospatial tools to make our pollution prevention work with customers more effective.

Prior to managing The City's Stormwater Pollution Prevention Program for ICI sectors, Graham worked in the Stormwater Pollution Prevention Team’s Erosion and Sediment Control Program (focused on public and private construction and land development). Combining the disciplines of soil science and environmental chemistry with many years working in the Water Utility and a short stint in environmental consulting, Graham continues to provide effective collaboration and subject matter expertise to a wide variety of customers including contractors, landowners and developers, project managers, facility operators, safety personnel, regulators, and City staff. Graham has also helped coordinate responses to several spills to The City’s stormwater system and is a strong advocate for the benefits of proactive pollution prevention for Calgary’s public and private business sectors.
