The climate is changing, bringing higher temperatures, different rainfall patterns, and increasing risk from severe weather events. The increasing climate-related risk and need to better manage stormwater creates new challenges for building owners, managers and operators. Join us for a webinar hosted by BOMA Calgary and the City of Calgary on what you should know and what you could do to reduce your risk, add value to your buildings, and protect your operations. The webinar will include speakers from the City of Calgary with BOMA Canada BOMA BEST National Technical Committee members and BOMA Calgary verifiers available for questions. The workshop will cover BOMA BEST questionnaire module 9) Site, Short term and long-term climate and resilience. Climate Risk and Resilience: Managing risk to protect your building Alberta’s climate is changing. This will impact our environment, our buildings and infrastructure, and our economy. Understanding anticipated climate changes, and proactively working to lessen the impact of these changes will help to manage risk to the built environment, natural environment, and people in our communities. Learn what you should know and what you could do to reduce your risk, add value to your building, and protect your operations. Specifically: - Calgary’s key climate hazards, and anticipated climate related risk
- How building resilience to a changing climate can prepare us to adapt to long-term shifts
- What is a Climate Risk and Resilience Assessment?
- How we are implementing this process for major City infrastructure projects
- How this can be applied for private buildings and commercial space to develop a Building Resilience and/or Adaptation Plan
- How this can improve long-term adaptive capacity
Stormwater Management: Better stormwater management for better buildings Bert will discuss what happens to stormwater after it hits your property. He will provide an overview of on-site stormwater management and how it relates to the public drainage system, low impact development, pollution prevention and river health protection. Bert will provide information on management approaches and tools that can improve your site’s stormwater management and will share the benefits of improved management including decreased risk of flooding and improved site aesthetics. The Zoom link will be sent on April 7th to those who registered
